In 2011 the idea for “Stand for Sam” was born. The foundation is named for Sam Murray, an aspiring young farmer whose life was cut short in April 2011 by a rare form of Leukemia.
This foundation was formed to create a legacy for Sam’s vision. He had many plans for the future and our mission is to build on those dreams.
Sam’s passions included music, agriculture, working animals, growing food and growing trees. He had a great passion for life and learning in his short 19 years.
Sam wanted to plant one million trees to help save the “Lungs of the Planet”. He was concerned about deforestation around the globe. He had learned about cultivating and protecting native trees and had begun a mini nursery of California Native trees. He was particularly fond of California’s Oak varieties.
Let's create a living legacy for Sam by planting trees and teaching people how to grow food!
